The effective collision strength data are from a 61-term, 138-level
      Intermediate-Coupling Frame-Transformation (ICFT) R-matrix calculation
in which the close-coupling expansion included all levels of the
      configurations 2s22p5, 2s2p6, 2s22p43s, 2s22p43p, 2s22p43d, 2s22p44s,
2s22p44p, 2s22p44d, and 2s22p44f that lie below the ionization limit.
In addition to the above configurations, the configuration-interaction
expansion of the target included the configurations 2s22p45p, 2s22p45d,
      2s2p53p, 2s2p53d, 2s2p54p, 2s2p54d, 2s2p55p, 2s2p55d, 2p63s, 2p63p,
      2p63d, 2p64s, 2p65s, 2s22p35d2, and 2s2p45d2. The 1s, 2s, 2p, and 3s
orbitals were determined from a configuration-average (CA) Hartree-Fock
      calculation on 2p43s, while the 3p, 3d, 4s, 4p, 4d, and 4f orbitals were
determined from a frozen-core CA Hartree Fock calculations on the
2s22p4nl configurations. The 5s pseudo orbital was determined from a
multi-configuration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) calculation in which the energy
of the 2s2p6 was minimized and in which the 2s2p6 2S, 2p63s 2S,
      2p64s 2S, and 2p65s 2S terms were included. The 5p and 5d pseudo
orbitals were determined from a MCHF calculation in which the energy of
the 2p5 2P ground term was minimized and in which the 2s22p43p 2P,
      2s22p44p 2P, 2s22p45p 2P, 2s2p53d 2P, 2s2p54d 2P, and 2s2p55d 2P terms
were included. In STG3 of the R-matrix calculation, the term energies
were adjusted to the experimental term energies and in the ICFT
calculation, the level energies were adjusted to the experimental
      values.

For all JPI partial waves from J=0 to 10.0, we performed an LS
R-matrix calculation with exchange for the LSPI partial waves with
      L = 0 to L = 12 and then transformed the unphysical K-matrices to
intermediate coupling using the ICFT method. For the higher partial
waves, we performed a no-exchange calculation in LS coupling, for all
LSPI partial waves from L = 8 to 40; transformed the unphysical
K-matrices to intermediate-coupling; and topped up. This allowed us
to add the partial-wave contributions from J = 11 to 38. The size of
the continuum basis for these calculations was set to 36 and the
the R-matrix "box" had a radius of 34.8 au. In the asymptotic portion
of this calculation, we used a total of 8800 points to generate an
energy mesh that was sufficiently fine to resolve the majority of narrow
resonances. The maximum energy in this calculation was 6 Ry which is
high enough to generate accurate effective collision strengths up to the
      maximum temperature of 4x10^5 K.

The radiative rates for the dipole-allowed transitions were determined
from our 138-level CI calculation in the Breit-Pauli approximation.

The numbers in the last column of the above table are the theoretical
values for the reduced effective collision strengths in the infinite
temperature limit as defined in Burgess and Tully Astron. Astrophys.
      254 436 (1992).
                                        Donald C. Griffin

Update of the May 11, 2001 version. More detailed comments and some minor
numerical differences between high lying levels (115 and above) at the
      high temperatures.
