     The columns to the right of the energies are the designations of the
     levels in jj coupling.  The levels are highly mixed in LS coupling,
     and jj coupling provides the most meaningful labels for these levels.

     The above effective collision strengths for the above transitions
     in W^44+ were determined from a fully relativistic R-matrix calculation
     that included the effects of radiation damping.  The energy levels and
     radiative rates (electric dipole and quadrupole and magnetic dipole
     and quadrupole) were determined from a Dirac-Fock calculation using
     GRASP.  The effective collision strengths for all transitions between
     the 168 levels included in the calculation were determined using our
     parallel suite of Dirac R-matrix programs.

     All JPI partial waves from J = 0.5 to 35.5 were included in the R-matrix
     scattering calculation.  The collision strengths for this range of
     partial waves was then topped up.  The size of the continuum basis was
     14 for the low partial waves in resonance region, 25 for the low partial
     waves in the high energy region, and 20 for the high partial waves over
     all energies.  The size of the R-matrix box was 2.0 au.  In the
     resonance region (for all JPI partial waves from J = 0.5 to 15.5), we
     employed an energy-mesh spacing of 2.0x10^-3 Ryd, for a total of 50000
     mesh points.  In the high-energy region from 107 Ryd to 1100 Ryd, we
     employed a total of 227 mesh points for the same range of JPI partial
     waves.  Finally, for the high partial waves from J = 16.5 to 35.5, we
     employed a total of 1000 energy mesh points in the energy range just
     below the first excitation threshold at 6.354 Ryd to 1100. Ryd.

     The numbers in the last column of the above table are the theoretical
     values for the reduced effective collision strengths in the infinite
     temperature limit, as defined in Burgess and Tully Astron. Astrophys.
     254 436 (1992).   For dipole transitions, these were generated from
     Dirac-Fock calculations, while the non-dipole values were determined
     using a semi-relativistic Thomas-Fermi-Dirac-Amaldi potential
     modified to include the mass-velocity and Darwin terms.
